About Freightliner

Freightliner Group Limited is the parent company of Freightliner Limited, Freightliner Heavy Haul Limited, Freightliner Maintenance Limited and Freightliner PL.

The groups core activity, operated through our specialist subsidiary companies is the movement of freight by rail, ranging from the rail haulage of commodities such as agreggates and coal to the highly efficient Logico operation formed in response to demand from freight forwarders, road hauliers and manufacturers for a high quality rail-based logistic service.

Since privatisation in 1996, the Freightliner Group has developed into a dynamic, profitable logistics company with a modern fleet of locomotives, rolling stock and lorries.  This has enabled us to retain our market-leading share of the UK intermodal market and to develop a significant and growing share of the UK’sbulk rail freight market.

We have seen continued growth both financially and in tonnage moved, with an increased turnover of 180%, increase of employees by 60% and a 55% increase in the volume of containers moved by rail significantly reducing road freight.

Our growth and expanded business activity has been funded by over £477m investment raised since privatisation.

The business’s success is reflected by our continued growth and major achievements in redefining the rail freight market. Traditionally operating in the transport of maritime containers, we have since successfully branched out in to the movement of bulk freight by rail and have developed new and innovative solutions to our client’s ongoing requirements.

Currently we are operating with over 1,800 staff, 160 locomotives, including 127 new Class 66s, and more than 3,000 wagons, including coal and aggregate hoppers. We carry up to 3,000 intermodal containers per day and run over 1,200 heavy haul trains per week attaining 97+% on-time deliveries. We received the prestigious Rail Freight Award and Business Improvement Award by IFW (International Freighting Weekly), as well as being the first rail freight operator to win the HSBC Rail Business Awards, Train Operator of the Year in 2006.
